Yangon - June 20

For the communications advisor positions, only two experts—one local and one foreign each—will be selected to provide communications regulatory advices, according to the news from the Posts and Communications Department.

Out of the six applications for the local positions the bureau has received, only one person will be selected, U Kyaw Oo, Assistant Director at the Admin Section, said.

“We are still in the process of reviewing the candidates, and we are responsible only for the local advisor position. Foreign applicants need to apply directly to the World Bank. The World Bank will then discuss with us in the selection process,” said U Kyaw Oo.

The World Bank has been assisting the Myanmar government in reforming the country’s communications sector.

As for the advisors, they will need to provide recommendations to the official regulatory agencies, on spectrum management, and on licensing.

Also, an independent regulator consisting of nongovernment experts will be established in 2015 to oversee the telecommunications operators, according to the news from Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
