Yangon - The Ministry of Commerce is planning to achieve US$ 35 billion as the total trade volume for this budget year, according to Union Minister for Commerce U Win Myint.
“There are a lot of illegal trades in this country. We have discussed with other ASEAN countries about it at the World Economic Forum. Very soon, there will be mobile teams checking at the borders, seaports, and airports,” said U Win Myint.
Although the Ministry of Commerce’s projects US$25 billion as this year trade target, it is working with other ministries to achieve US$ 35 billion, a senior official from the Ministry of Commerce said.
Last year’s trade volume totaled almost US$ 25 billion and majority of it came from border trade.
After U Thein Sein became president, his government aims to improve trade and has increased the trade volume by US$ 10 billion in three years.
