Yangon – Telenor Myanmar, one of the foreign telecoms operators, will begin selling its SIM cards starting in Mandalay on September 27th.
One week after the launch in Mandalay, the company will sell the SIM cards in Nay Pyi Taw, followed by Yangon another week later.
“Why aren’t we launching our services in these three cities at the same time? Because we want to provide high quality services. The launch in Yangon will be late because there are a few problems in building towers,” said Petter Furberg, CEO of Telenor Myanmar.
The calling rate for Telenor SIM cards will be 25 Kyats per minute on any network, and a SMS will cost 15 Kyats.
Telenor has come up with two different Internet plans: MY Internet plan that charges 6 Kyats per MB with speed up to 300 Kbps, and Smart Internet plan that charges 10 Kyats per MB with speed up to 2MB.
“As soon as you buy our SIM cards, you can use the MY Internet plan. If you need Smart Internet plan for faster internet speed, you will need to send a SMS to the number 500,” said Furberg.
Telenor SIM cards will allow its users free Facebook usage for 30 days and free access to Wikipedia Myanmar.
Top-up cards will include 1,000 Kyats, 3000 Kyats, 5,000 Kyats, and 10,000 Kyats. 1,000 Kyat top-up will give users 15 minutes of call and 15MB of internet for free. 10,000 Kyat top-up will give users 120 minutes of call and 120MB of internet for free.
