The Myanmar government has reauthorized pre-arrangement visa on arrival, which was discontinued since last month, till the end of 2014.
"We just received the notification letter from the Directorate-General at the Ministry of Immigration and Population that they have reauthorized it till the end of December," says U Thet Lwin Toe, vice-chairman of the Union of Myanmar Travel Association.
Due to many issues with the E-Visa system, the association wrote to the President and Vice-President on October 21 to reintroduce pre-arrangement visa.
Travel companies can apply for arrival visas for their presold package tours.
The Myanmar government introduced the US$ 17 million E-Visa system on September 1, 2014.
"The E-Visa system is not yet convenient for everyone. Many issues including payment, technology, and language still need to be fixed," says U Thet Lwin Toe.
Some tourists have had to cancel their trips in November and December after the arrival visa was canceled.
Tourist arrival has been increasing during President Thein Sein's term, and the government has set a target of 3 million tourist arrivals in 2014.
